Making its global premier in the spring of 2018, the M4 Convertible Edition 30 Jahre has been specially designed to commemorate the 30 year anniversary of the original release of the M3 Convertible, and it certainly arrives with a splash. For starters, the M4 Convertible Edition 30 Jahre is available in just two bright, bold colors - Mandarin II and Macao Blue Metallic. Lest you think that the designers simply wanted to make their extremely limited edition vehicle stand out even more than it already does, it’s important to know there is actually history behind both color choices. The lumenece gold-yellow of Mandarin II pays homage to the second generation of M3 convertibles and their distinctive Dakar Yellow exteriors. Likewise, Macao Blue Metallic is a tribute “to the open-top high-performance car’s debut three decades ago,” according to BMW. 

As difficult as it would be to choose between the two exciting exterior paint choices, the lucky three hundred buyers who actually got to purchase the M4 Convertible Edition 30 Jahre also had to consider how the exterior paint would influence the interior styling. Those that chose to bring home their limited-edition 30 Jahre in Macao Blue Metallic also had their choice between a Black/Fjord Blue two-tone interior or a Black/Silverstone interior. It’s an important decision as features such as the headrest’s stitching, and specialty-logoed “M” floor mats will boast the chosen color scheme.  The choice is easier for those who went with the Mandarin II exterior paint choice- they will be driving home in an all-black interior with flashy yellow stitching to add some zippy pizazz.

And sure, the rich and vibrant colors may pull your eye in, but ultimately it’s the flawless finish and the undulating fine lines of the vehicle that make it impossible to look away. There’s also the “BMW kidney grille surround, the M side gills, the model lettering and the forged M light alloys boasting a star-spoke design” but without a doubt, the feature that simply does the bragging for you is the “30 Jahre Edition” branded into the car’s headrests and door sills - and in case your passenger doesn’t  realize just how unique your ride is, there is also the “1/300” lettered onto the passenger dashboard. No mistaking with that just how special and truly limited-edition the M4 Convertible Edition 30 Jahre is!

Performance Driven

Looks are one thing, but if when you are splurging on a one-in-three-hundred vehicle, looks won’t be enough to justify the price tag. BMW certainly knows this, which is why each one of the three hundred M4 Convertible Edition 30 Jahre’s will include the “$4,250 Competition Package that adds 19 hp, sharper steering, an adaptive suspension, and sportier software settings,” according to MotorTrend. The M4 Convertible Edition 30 Jahre will also have “an upgraded exhaust system.. an active M differential” and be able to reach a maximum horsepower of 444.  Basically, the car looks sleek and sporty on the outside, and the inside machinery does nothing to dispel the notion that this one seriously speedy special-edition.

BMWs for the Rest of Us

Of course, the chances of ever being able to drive one of these rare limited editions is impossibly slim, especially given the fact that BMW only graced the US with thirty of the models. However, that certainly doesn’t mean there is not a BMW out there for you! In fact, while it would be cool to drive such a small-batch production vehicle, you can still enjoy the thrill of driving in a top-down convertible BMW M4 - in fact, if you’re willing to pay them for the Competition Package, your M4 will be just as powerful as the limited-edition 30 Jahre! Sure, you might not have some of the unique stitching and few of the specialty-design features, but under the hood, you’ll be just as powerful as the special-edition batch of models. Additionally, the M4’s are available not just as convertibles but also as coupes, so if having the wind in your hair isn’t appealing, you can always just go for the hardtop version instead.
